Letting Go of the Past

Green LIght: Those who search find

I’m learning Key #1 in the “Listen to Your Heart, and Success will Follow” class.  It’s all about accepting change and using change as an opportunity to take charge of my life.  It can be very challenging to let go of the past.  it’s nice to have something to blame when things are not going right, but it also prevents you from moving forward.

The instructor started the lesson with the following poem:

To “let go” does not mean to stop caring; it means I can’t do it for someone else.
To “let go” is not to cut myself off; it’s the realization I can’t control another.
To “let go” is not to try to change or blame another; it’s to make the most of myself.
To “let go” is not to judge; but to allow another to be a human being.
To “let go” is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes; but to allow others to affect their destinies.
To “let go” is not to be protective:  it’s to permit another to face reality.
To “let go” is not to nag, scold, or argue, but instead to search out and correct my own shortcomings.
To “let go” is not to deny, but to accept.
To “let go” is to fear less, and love more.

It’s not easy being open to change.  It can feel safe even if you’re not really happy.  Many times facing the unknown is scarier the dealing with the known crappy stuff.

To help with the letting go process, the instructor provided an assessment survey to determine what is draining the energy from you.  I found my relationships, environment, body/mind/spirit, and work were areas I was not taking care of myself.  I’ve been so focused on strengthening my financial position, that I’ve been neglecting other areas of my life.  I’ve got to get my life better aligned.

Cynthia, the instructor, suggests working on getting the body/mind/spirit happy which will then help my relationships and environment.  It’s all connected.

The first step is awareness.  I think as I continue pushing forward on all my goals and not just a few of them I should experience more balance in my life.
